威尔士最著名、最受欢迎的民间故事之一是关于一只忠实的猎犬的故事。

故事是这样的:在十三世纪,王子Llywelyn the Great在Caernarvonshire的Beddgelert有一座宫殿,由于王子热衷于打猎,他花了很多时间在周围的乡村。 他有很多猎狗,但是有一天,当他像往常一样用喇叭召唤他们时,他最喜欢的狗Gelert没有出现,所以遗憾的是Llywelyn不得不在没有它的情况下去打猎。

当Llywelyn从狩猎中回来时,迎接他的是Gelert,他向他狂奔而来......他的下巴滴着血。

Llywelyn懊悔不已,把他忠诚的狗的尸体抬到了城堡墙外,并把它埋在了每个人都能看到的这个勇敢的动物的坟墓里,并听到它与狼英勇战斗的故事。

至今,这里仍有一个石窝,Beddgelert这个名字在威尔士语中的意思是 "Gelert的坟墓"。 每年都有成千上万的人参观这只勇敢的狗的坟墓;然而,有点问题的是,这个石窝实际上只有不到200年的历史!
