Paul King

标准之战也被称为诺萨勒顿之战,是英国国王斯蒂芬和皇后玛蒂尔达(本文底部的图片)在被称为无政府状态的混乱时期进行的两场主要战役之一。

苏格兰国王大卫一世率领一支大约16000人的军队越过边境进入英格兰,以支持他的侄女玛蒂尔达对斯蒂芬的王位要求。

由于斯蒂芬忙于在该国南部与反叛的男爵作战,因此只能由一支主要由当地人组建的部队来击退入侵的苏格兰人。 在很大程度上要感谢约克的瑟斯坦大主教,他宣扬抵御苏格兰人就是做上帝的工作,一支大约有一万人的英格兰军队被招募了过来。
