煎饼日,或称什罗夫星期二,是灰星期三大斋期开始前的传统节日。 大斋期--复活节前的40天--传统上是禁食的时间,在什罗夫星期二,盎格鲁-撒克逊的基督徒去忏悔并被 "驱赶"(免除他们的罪过)。 一个铃铛会被敲响,叫人们去忏悔。 这被称为 "煎饼钟",现在仍然是今天响起。

Shrove Tuesday总是在复活节周日之前的47天,所以每年的日期都不一样,在2月3日和3月9日之间。 2021年的Shrove Tuesday将在2月16日。
